After our initial concept meeting with the tutors on the Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern degree programme, and cementing a core concept of focus for our design development, I will be really keen to look to existing contextual resources and information (particularly throughout publications such as journals and magazines) for inspiration, and to follow a design that is visually and emotively relevant to the industry and it's current trends.

Throughout Behance (an initial stage for design research, before expanding the development wider), I found a couple of examples of editorial projects that apply themes of printed textiles and surface pattern design, with a really strong and focused use of imagery in both a more fashion photography / textiles outcome, and one which is heavily influenced (the William Morris design brief, images from which are shown at the bottom of the blog post) by the use of pattern - making and the application of the design or print processes.

Although for the cover design and overall brand aesthetic of the course, we may have to choose something more neutral to visually encompass the wide variety of styles and design directions from students on the course, for promoting and documenting the work of the students, we can go on to explore various photographic outcomes, which, hopefully, will showcase the diverse range of skills and methods of production from this large course, and it's many talented designers.
