FMP | Collective Branding

As part of the research development for the Geek Table Collective brief, and movement that we collectively hope to set out and achieve, I knew it was important to research other global collectives as a source of inspiration, and, importantly, to set out to fully establish myself with the notion of what a collective truly is, and what it means to be a part of one.

From online sources, I discovered a vast array of collectives from around the world, in a manner of different design disciplines, including graphic design, fashion, furniture and carpentry, animation, illustration, etc., though, largely, the majority of collectives sourced were British, and discovering that collectives were even formed from 1960's Britain, in the high- art, high- culture, pop trends of the day, 'the collective' does appear to be quite a British phenomenon.

From my research, I also feel that collectives have a real sense of family, togetherness, and a personal touch that traditional 'design studios' may not otherwise boast. Collectives actively choose to work together, often working in sync, offering one another feedback and working closely day-to-day. I feel that it is this working environment that gives collectives the prestige and 'fan base' that they often obtain, and hope that it is something that we too can strive to.

Sourced above and below are examples of some of my personal favourite collectives researched and sourced.
