FMP | Yearbook Test Photography & Layout Discussions

Today, along with the yearbook design team, Kirsty Alderson, Kirsty Hardingham, and Claudia Griffin, I was lucky enough to have a chance to go round the Printed Textiles room, along, again, with the print room, and take a few, very quick test images to use as placeholders for the mocking up of the publication and editorial design layout, as well as getting some ideas together about the kind of set ups we will be hoping to achieve with the workstations, along with photographing the portfolio work of the students themselves.

This proved to be a really successful trip, not only in terms of learning more about the variety of work and studio space, but an inspiring one. When discussing ideas for the cover at a later date, after a series of ideas that "might" work, Kirsty Hardingham, upon seeing the design layout and concept I'd been working on (which seemed to go down well, and will be taken forward, and experimented with, for our final design layout), suggested we use coloured squares on the front. With 62 students, Kirsty Alderson suggested that it would be appropriate to have 62 different coloured squares,  each representing an individual student, but in complimentary tones (Perhaps pastels or brights? Something to experiment with..!), but, to make an even square (8x8) we have decided to add 1 square for Team Textiles (the staff) and 1 square for the Yearbook team.

Along with this experimentation, we will also go on to propose designs and an "in house brand" for the degree programme, which could potentially be translated into signage and print media for the New Blood Show, which various degree students from the course annually attend.

Looking forward to getting stuck in, we will come back together with our designs on April 3rd, to propose for the body copy and layout to be complete by April 22nd (the date in which we will photograph all the work to drop into the placeholders image frames).
