FMP | Concept Meeting with Duncan

This afternoon we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet up with Duncan to discuss initial concepts and ideas for the Yearbook design.

We were all really glad that he seemed really on-board with the 'The Journey is the Destination' concept, as documented, having been inspired by concepts and ideas from both Claudia Griffin and Kirsty Hardingham, and feels that it's well suited to the course and the students.

Along with having received the body copy for the content of the yearbook, this will also be followed up with student names and details, along with any necessary contact information within the next couple of days. We were also, very kindly told, that we would each be allowed to, as a donation from surface pattern, be allowed to print a copy of the book (at this point, we are thinking of outsourcing through Lulu or Blurb online book printers/binders), which would be a fantastic piece for interviews and our personal design collection.

After the meeting I also met up with Jessie Leong (a second year Photography student who I have been able to collaborate with on a few occasions, and am currently designing the brand/website for), and she is really keen to get involved in terms of documenting the work to a professional standard, so we're really looking forward to having her involved in our finalised designs also.

In a post- meeting meeting (lots of meetings lately!) we discussed our responsibilities and deadlines as a group, and we will each work on cover designs and DPS(s), and sending them to one another through our group Facebook page for crit feedback before coming together again on the 15th, whereupon, we will have a group meeting with Fred to discuss our progress.

I proposed the idea of marbling for the cover, which I feel could not only be really beautiful, but would also reflect both the traditional print-making methods exorcised on the course, along with reflecting the journal/scrapbook-like feel to the overall design outcome.

Really excited to start researching, and, most importantly, to get experimenting with my design.
