FMP | Laura Ashley Photoshop Work by Steph

It was great to see some more Photoshopped work by Steph (examples shown on this page) for the Laura Ashley brief sent along to me today. I'm really impressed with Steph's mocking up skills, and the images with the sofas, I feel, are particularly impressive, and really suit the existing Laura Ashley brand aesthetic.

Having the really extensive range of images sent through has really motivated me to make a good start on my responsibilities within the brief- defining the branding, promotional, editorial and other marketing media. Really looking forward to starting to work with these images, and hopefully creating some really impressive design outcomes.

FMP | Laura Ashley Mock Ups by Steph

After a brief discussion yesterday, and giving Steph some of the files downloaded, including a Laura Ashley PDF catalogue, Steph went away to develop mock up designs in situ, using her illustrative floral designs, cloning over text detail etc. Admittedly, Steph has said that she feels she is both at a beginners/intermediate level of using Photoshop, and also feels she needs to make a few more refinements, but I think she's done a great job so far, and worked with some difficult textures and angles well.

Tomorrow we hope to have another meeting to discuss the editorial design I plan to put together, in terms of the content, and what more Steph needs to do to provide the necessary material.

Really happy with the development so far, but now I've just got a lot to catch up on!

FMP | Elle Decoration Interiors Images

www.elledecor.com

Inspired by a comment from friends and Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Designers, Jess and Lucy, after a difficult search for stock and in situ images to use for the hypothetical Laura Ashley S / S 2013 Home Interiors Collection range, I decided to go through an interiors magazine (in this case, Elle Decoration, the March 2013 issue) to scan in images to use.

Although, of course, this is far from ideal, in regards to potential copyright infringement (though we will source the images back at all times), hopefully they could provide a starting point for the application of the designs in a professional, photographic context, although, of course, a great deal of editing will have to be done to get the images to even a "canvas" stage.

FMP | Stock Photos for Laura Ashley

This evening I set myself the (rather grim) task of sourcing stock images to use as Photoshop mock up bases for the collaborative hypothetical Laura Ashley S / S 2013 Home Interiors Collection brief. Looking for inexpensive (due to the range we want to produce) stock photos is, in itself, a complete contradiction, and finding high resolution files within our budget seemed to be an impossible task.

I was lucky enough to find a couple of sites which promote free downloads. Although the images (shown and sourced and the bottom of the page) are by no means perfect, and will need a significant amount of editing purely to get to the "canvas" stage, they may well prove useful, and it will be something to bring to Steph's attention in our next meeting together.

FMP | Laura Ashely Product Specification Meeting

Today Steph and I managed to have a quick group meeting to discuss the outcomes and products to look to design for the outcome of the Laura Ashley brief, along with the patterns we hoped to use for both mocking up and printing for the final resolutions.

Along with the images I have already specified, we are also planning to use the pattern (shown above and below) which I missed in the first blog post) over a variety of products.

These include:

* Sofas
* Armchairs
* Chaise longue
* Curtains
* Blinds
* Wallpaper
* Boxes
* Cushions
* Vases
* Throws
* Wallpaper reel
* Fabric reels
* Coffee table runner
* Canvas prints
* Lampshade
* Pot poturri dish
* Rug
* Coasters
* Posters
* Lampshades

-

My role for the next couple of days is to finalise the branding proposals, to source in situe images and to continue the initial plans for editorial and promotional design.

Time to get busy.
